What to book ahead
- Always carry both a Visa/Mastercard and Mexican Peso cash ($ MXN) at Yucatecan Maya ruins, as Chichén Itzá ($648 MXN) and Uxmal ($561 MXN) collect separate federal INAH and state CULTUR payments.
- Pack a long-sleeved UV rashguard shirt—chemical sunscreens (even many labeled 'reef-safe') are prohibited inside Yucatán and Quintana Roo cenotes.
- Pay the mandatory Quintana Roo Visitax ($283 MXN) only on the official state government website (visitax.gob.mx) before departing CUN or TQO airports.
Ways to adapt this route
- Swap a midday museum visit for a traditional Mercado Municipal food tour and Comida Corrida lunch
- Add a Pueblo Mágico half-day excursion (such as Cholula, Izamal, Tepoztlán, Tlaquepaque, or Todos Santos)
