Day-by-day plan

Day 1

Arrival at SJD Airport, San José del Cabo Art District & Estuary

Pick up your rental car at SJD Airport (verifying mandatory Mexican Third-Party Liability insurance) or ride Ruta del Desierto to San José del Cabo. Walk the colonial Plaza Mijares and gallery district.

Day 2

El Arco Boat Tour, Playa del Amor & Snorkeling at Chileno Bay

Take an early glass-bottom panga from Cabo San Lucas Marina ($300 MXN) out to Land's End Arch and Sea Lion Colony, then snorkel the calm Blue Flag waters of Playa Chileno along the Corridor.

Day 3

East Cape Drive to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park (UNESCO)

Drive 2 hours northeast to the 20,000-year-old living coral reef of Cabo Pulmo. Join a certified local panga captain to snorkel with giant vortexes of bigeye jack fish and sea turtles.

Day 4

North to La Paz via Sierra de la Laguna & Malecón Sunset

Drive north along the Sea of Cortez to Baja California Sur's tranquil capital, La Paz. Stroll the 5-km seafront Malecón and dine on wood-roasted chocolate clams (almejas chocolatas) and Baja fish tacos.

Day 5

Isla Espíritu Santo Marine Reserve & Playa Balandra

Take a full-day licensed boat excursion across turquoise waters to snorkel with playful sea lion pups at Los Islotes and visit the shallow mushroom-rock coves of Playa Balandra.

Day 6

Pacific Highway 19 to Todos Santos Pueblo Mágico & Playa Cerritos

Cross the peninsula to the desert oasis of Todos Santos. Browse brick-walled galleries, watch baby sea turtle releases at sunset (seasonal), or surf gentle rolling waves at Playa Cerritos.

Day 7

Organic Desert Farm Brunch in San José Foothills & SJD Departure

Drive 1 hour south along the Pacific cliffs back to San José del Cabo for an organic farm-to-table lunch in Animas Bajas before your flight from SJD.

Transport, Tren Maya & ADO notes

Combine Tren Maya across the 5 southeastern states with ADO Platino/GL in the south and ETN/Primera Plus VIP double-decker coaches across Central Mexico and the Bajío.

What to book ahead

  • Never drive Baja highways after dark—livestock (cattle, horses, burros) wander onto unfenced desert roads at night.
  • Check Playa Balandra's two daily CONANP timed entry blocks (08:00–12:00 and 13:00–17:00) so you arrive 30 minutes before the gate opens.
  • Only swim at designated Sea of Cortez bays (Médano, Chileno, Santa María, Balandra) or Playa Cerritos; Pacific-side beaches in Cabo and Todos Santos have lethal shorebreak and undertows.

Ways to adapt this route

  • Swap a midday museum visit for a traditional Mercado Municipal food tour and Comida Corrida lunch
  • Add a Pueblo Mágico half-day excursion (such as Cholula, Izamal, Tepoztlán, Tlaquepaque, or Todos Santos)
