What to book ahead

  • Travel between CDMX, Querétaro, San Miguel, and Guanajuato on ETN (double-decker 2+1 wide leather seats) or Primera Plus—both offer airline-level comfort and onboard restrooms.
  • Pack grippy flat walking shoes and a warm sweater or light down jacket for San Miguel and Guanajuato (1,900–2,050 m elevation).
  • In Guanajuato City, pack a compact suitcase or backpack—taxis drop you at the nearest plaza tunnel exit, and hillside hotels require climbing stone steps.

Ways to adapt this route

  • Swap a midday museum visit for a traditional Mercado Municipal food tour and Comida Corrida lunch
  • Add a Pueblo Mágico half-day excursion (such as Cholula, Izamal, Tepoztlán, Tlaquepaque, or Todos Santos)
